fishes
the beginning, the end & everything in-between
Between 2002 & 2004, I pursued the fish in form, texture & metaphor to affect evocative graphics and meanings; tentatively alluding to this mythological motif across many cultures.
Starting with manually drafted geometric structural templates, I detailed four forms by hand. The dual-fish Ying-Yang was further explored both digitally as well as relief-work in paper.
The ultimate task was the creation of the form – body, tail, fins, scales, moth & eye – in a single pen stroke. The resulting form was further translated digitally, adding glass-like fins & eye, while bubbles of varying densities became scales or the watery background.
