Safal Prelude: commercial interior
mingling the rough with the smooth
The design attempts to infuse a subtle tactility in the experience of an entrance foyer within a commercial office building. The large west-facing volume avails a play of light and shadow on various planes; making it an exercise in rendering surfaces – floor, walls, the entrance door, canopy and a bench. The design pays particular attention to the material palette and nature of finishes: teak frames and iron-filing sandwiched in glass panels for the fenestration, travertine cladding for the walls set against a chocolate brown stone for the floor and a mural of steel-plates. The lighting design enhances the richness and austerity of the spatial experience.
