Shivanshi: apartment interior
openness & adaptability for a small family home
The project explores the redesign of an apartment interior within the liberties and limitations of it being the architect’s own home. The plan attempts to ‘open’ up the conventional layout and establishes the generous spatiality available without walls, which is then selectively enclosed by a system of sliding doors, so as to offer more flexibility in the usage of spaces. The furniture and opaque and translucent, fixed and sliding partitions make the spatial elements of this design. The choice of materials, treatment of surfaces and articulation were guided by the need to impart an organic and tactile quality to the interior.
